The 5 Best Lawn Games

The 5 Best Lawn Games

May 09, 2019

May is moving fast and you’re counting down the days until summer, when long days and cold beer mean you’re spending as much time as you can outside. But you can’t just sit around and soak in the sun all summer, though. Wait, actually, you absolutely can. That sounds amazing. Ok, well if you get tired of lounging we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of the 5 best lawn games that will make your summer even better.

1. Cornhole

Few games bring out the competitive spirit of everyone who partakes like the classic battle Royale of Americana known as Cornhole. Sorry, grandma, the bag just missed. Oooh, so close, lil Chuckie, but too bad. You lose AGAIN. Need a refresh before tossing the bag? Take a look at the official rules here (yes, there are official rules. And don’t you forget it!) https://americancornhole.com/aco-official-rules-for-the-sport-of-cornhole/

2. Spikeball

A newcomer to the summer backyard rotation, Spikeball is quickly becoming the at home sport du jour for the hyperactive. It’s super portable, super challenging and definitely one you’ll have to try.

3. Wiffle ball

I remember back when I was 13 I hit 250 home runs one summer, besting neighborhood rival Gordon on the last day of the season with a 22 home run barrage. No backyard game requires so little and brings so much joy as whiffle ball.

4. Badminton

Ah yes, the Sport of Kings and Queens. For the more regal among us, Badminton offers a civilized route to summer enjoyment, but don’t be fooled: the shuttlecock is not for the feint of heart.

5. Kick the Can

The oldest game on the list, kick the can was invented by a band of homeless children in 1900’s Arkansas and spread like wildfire to any home that had a can, a yard to put the can, and enough people to both kick and defend the can. Further proof that yard games don’t need to be complicated or expensive - all you really need are friends!

5 Reasons Why Going Outside is Good for You
5 Reasons Why Going Outside is Good for You

June 04, 2019

If you are like most of us, you probably spend over fifty hours a week working in a small, dusty cubicle in an office building a few floors up. If you're lucky, you have a window with view of something green. At the end of a long day, after fighting stop and go traffic or sitting on a dirty, crowded subway car on your way home, consider spending fifteen minutes just sitting outside on your patio or deck enjoying nature. Take deep breaths or watch the sun set. Better yet, take a glass of wine outside with you and leave the worries and cares of the day behind you. The laundry will still be there when the fifteen minutes is over, and some people even say they feel more energized after being outside for a few minutes.
