How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Buying Furniture Online

Online shopping has become a worry-free experience - except when it comes to furniture. When faced with buying a new sofa, we would rather get in the car, drive to a store and pay a premium to purchase something we can sit in — rather than spend 10 minutes online, click a few buttons and save a ton of money. We’re happy to spend thousands of dollars on airline tickets, clothes, even food - but for so many of us the idea of buying furniture online is still too tough a pill to swallow. We’re afraid the new sofa won’t work out, that it will be uncomfortable, and that we’ll be stuck with it. But I’m here to tell you it doesn’t have to be that way.

I was once fearful of buying furniture online, despite a long (and expensive) history of making impulsive clothing and electronics purchases. When it came time to furnish my patio, however, I made the mistake of thinking an in-person purchase would be the best route, that there was no way an online company could or would provide comfortable outdoor furniture.

After an exhausting, in person search featuring outrageous prices, disappointing quality, annoying salespeople or an unholy trinity of the three, I was left thinking that purchasing online might be the best bet. Still, I found myself asking the same three questions over and over again:

How do I know if it will be comfortable if I can’t sit in it?

Despite buying countless products online that I never got to test out beforehand, I was nervous about buying an outdoor sofa that I couldn’t sit in first. Fortunately, the company I ended up ordering from offered free shipping, free returns, promised premium quality and actually delivered on it AND was priced well below any of the other major retailers I looked into. Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and other retailers were charging $5,000-$10,000 for an outdoor sectional. That is crazy. 

Is the company reputable?

I am a reviews person. Whether it’s a restaurant, a dentist or a furniture brand, I want to hear from other customers. A lot of online retailers offer reviews but only on their own website - how am I supposed to trust them? The furniture company I ordered from had tons of great reviews from real customers on a third party platform - Yelp.


What if I hate it?

Patio furniture is big and bulky and has to be shipped on pallets and it seemed like a disaster waiting to happen if it came and it was uncomfortable and not as advertised and I was left to pack it all up and deal with a complicated and tense returns process. FORTUNATELY I loved the furniture, but in the event that I didn’t the company I ordered from offered only 30 day, hassle-free returns. 

Fortunately, this whole experience was a risk-free proposition - by offering hassle-free returns, great reviews, amazing customer service and an exceptional product I saved thousands of dollars and now I have a great patio. So who was the company? Ajna Living.

    Your furniture looks good in the pictures and sounds high quality in the descriptions but I can’t for the life of me understand why you don’t include the dimensions in all your eloquent copy. You talk about DEEP seating but offer that description only subjectively. Please respond with complete dimensions on your standard and LUX sofas, chairs and ottomans. Thank you. Robert
